A modernized rendition of EMU’s lion sports logo presents a more updated image for the Royals, one that combines visual simplicity with wide reproduction usage. In fact, EMU’s athletic department has already adopted the new look and released its latest line of athletic apparel.
“The new logo will help provide a contemporary identity and a family feel for all sports while promoting EMU athletic programs,” said EMU athletic director Larry R. Martin. “It will appear, along with several approved secondary logos, on all varsity sport uniforms and in all print pieces and media guides.
“We’ve also developed a graphic standards manual to guide the appropriate usages of the image,” Martin noted.
“The Loyal Royals athletic booster club will also incorporate the new logo in their promotional activities,” Martin added. “The goal is for persons to see the new logo and immediately identify it with EMU athletic activities.”
Broad campus participation in selecting a new sports logo included a professional designer and submissions by a student design class. A campus-wide voting process promoted interest and enthusiasm. The final design, selected by a wide margin, was submitted by Rick S. Pallansch of Severn, Md.
