Soon we will have an online form for those meeting with subcommittees.

We will be passing around a “Who’s Who” to get to know people on faculty, administration, and staff.

Idea Drive (during office hours add ideas to google doc)

Mario shares that most ideas have to do with the cafeteria. Sarah Marie believes that the video has helped a lot.

All the ideas on the sheets of paper will be in the SGA office, and during office hours, we will be entering them in a word document. Instructions for this project will be in the office.

Peace Fellowship Funding Request

Rachel and Seth are coming with a yearly request for a conference at the UN in NYC. Peace Fellowship has been taking students to this conference for the past 20 years. This year they are able to take 12, where as in the past they have been able to take only six. Students can only attend this conference once.

Seth and Rachel were able to go last year. MCC and UN representatives from DRC are speaking at the conference. Rachel and Seth both had a phenomenal experience. First day at the conference includes hearing speakers from MCC UN. The next day includes tour of the UN as well as listening to other speakers. And the final day is to network with other colleges to find ways to bring the conference back to their respective campuses.

This year Peace Fellowship is not going to SOA, which cuts down from overall funding requests. They will be holding an on-campus event as well as a weathervane article to bring the event back to campus.

Mario asks how much registration is per person, and Rachel responds that it is $95.

They are taking three graduate students, although none of those people are included in the requested amount.

One movement on campus that originated from this conference a few years ago was EMU’s decision to sign an agreement tracing conflict minerals in their technology.

EMU will be represented twice as much as other colleges. They opened the sign up to everyone on campus and received 25 responses asking for a spot.

Peace fellowship is asking for $1455.

Mario asked how much was given to them last year, which was $715 for the SOA protest.

Charlie makes a motion to give the full amount. Hans seconds the motion.

Ken asks for clarification on how they will bring the event back to campus, which will be an on-campus talk back as well as an article in the Weathervane. They will be talking at the conference itself on how they can bring the event back, and Becca points out how Peace Fellowship has done a really good job at this in the past.

Committee Reporting

Ryan met with the Information Systems Planning committee. This meeting was catching up on what they did last year, and looking at what they would like to do next year. The meeting was an overview of what they are planning to do: Sutter Science Center, classroom updates (tech), Roselawn, wifi, telephone system. They were talking about using Google Drive instead of the P file; they were wondering if students had concern on privacy issues, and they are asking for student feedback. Right now we have servers for storing student files, and they are thinking about removing this and saving everything to the Drive.

Becca clarifies that if you are meeting with an institutional meeting, let them know ahead of time so they can put you on the meeting agenda.

Becca Jo also attended a meeting. Luke Hartman talked about bringing in more students.

Hans met with the Institutional Review Board. They met about proposals of students if they would like to do research. These proposals need to be fair, not misleading, etc. They check to see if research is ethical and following the guidelines.

Becca Jo: College Tour at JMU

College Tour is a free, one-day conference for schools in the area. They are doing a workshop on bystander intervention. If anyone is interested in attending, registration is free. This is occurring October 24.

Kat asks if we can get funding for a subcommittee event. Becca Jo responds that we will have funding for that.

Adjournment

Mario motions to adjourn the meeting. Roberto seconds the motion. Meeting adjourned at 8:26pm.
