A group of Mennonites and interfaith allies—many of them students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other members of the EMU and EMS community—marched more than 135 miles from Harrisonburg, Virginia, to Washington, D.C., on foot last month calling on lawmakers to support a cease-fire in Gaza.
The 2024 Mennonite Higher Education Conference hosted by EMU on Tuesday, May 14, and Wednesday, May 15, drew about 90 faculty and staff members from Mennonite institutions across the U.S. and Canada.

Each year EMU hosts the Academic and Creative Excellence (ACE) festival. This academic conference experience provides an opportunity for students to learn from their peers and to showcase their own research, creative projects, and papers. It is also an opportunity to continue conversations sparked by our Common Read for the year. We invite a keynote speaker to explore with us a topic that is rooted in EMU’s core values. Undergraduate classes do not meet between 8 am and 5 pm on Festival day, so everyone can fully participate.
An icon created by Eastern Mennonite Seminary alumnus Derek Yoder ’23, M.Div., graces the cover of the latest issue of Anabaptist World magazine. Yoder designed the digital artwork, titled “Christ of the Wheelchair,” for his master’s of divinity capstone project in 2022.
Shalom Academy 2024, held at Eastern Mennonite Seminary from Monday, Jan. 8, to Wednesday, Jan. 10, drew 80 pastors, ministers and laity to campus for its workshops, seminars, worship and fellowship opportunities. Participants traveled from 10 states for the event, from as far away as California and Manitoba, Canada.
Eastern Mennonite University has received a grant of $1,248,874 from Lilly Endowment Inc. to help establish Conectere, an interdisciplinary project that supports secure Christian parenting and caregiving. Conectere focuses on relational attachment bonds, an important factor that is largely unaddressed in current faith formation research and resources.
