MJ Sharp chose to work in a volatile and dangerous pursuit of the truth behind the horrifying atrocities and massacres of entire villages in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Yet he called Congo "paradise, the most beautiful place on earth". He dreamed of a peaceful Congo. He also dreamed of an ascent to the "Roof of Africa," Kilimanjaro. He was assassinated before either of those dreams could be realized.
We hope to advance his dream of a peaceful Congo by raising funds to train students in peaceful conflict resolution, especially citizens of the DRC. We plan to carry his ashes, and his story, to the summit of Kilimanjaro March 4 - 15, 2019. The team of hikers are part of MJ’s family, friends, or admirers. We have committed to raise $200,000 for the Michael J. Sharp Peace & Justice Endowed Scholarship at the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding at EMU. Help us carry on the dream of peace by donating today.
