Students, faculty, staff, alumni, community members and friends were invited to join the Inaugural Ceremony of Dr. Susan Schultz Huxman as EMU’s ninth president, Friday, April 7, 1 p.m. in the University Commons, followed by a reception.
Special activities took place April 3 through 8, 2017, as part of the week-long celebration.

This monthly event will feature some of Dr. Huxman’s favorite hymns in honor of her
inauguration. All are welcome.

Huxman during this week of inauguration activities. Several student musical groups
will enhance this time of worship, celebration and blessing.

The provost office hosts the 8th annual EMU Authors Reception. This annual event is to recognize and celebrate EMU faculty who have published a book, peer-reviewed article, chapter, performance or
exhibit in the past two years. Come view the materials and chat with faculty members
as they are available. Open to all.
4 p.m., Common Grounds Coffeehouse (University Commons)
Sociologist, professor, prolific writer and EMU alum Donald B. Kraybill will join the TGIW to talk about the research and outcome of his book for EMU’s Centennial, Eastern Mennonite University: A Century of Countercultural Education, published by Penn State Press University Press. Release date is scheduled for October
2017. Come for coffee, refreshments, input and Q&A with Don Kraybill. All are welcome.
12 p.m., Royals Den (University Commons)
Join the Campus Activities Council’s bi-weekly music series featuring the Jazz Ensemble. Enjoy jazz standards and some remixes of old favorites at this casual “pop-up concert”
event. Bring your lunch, purchase from the Den or be one of 30 lucky students with
an EMU ID to claim a free bagged lunch!

All are welcome to join in the ceremony. The service will include piano prelude by
Clement Acevedo, instructor of music, choral selections by Emulate Chamber Ensemble,
congregational singing, and a litany of investiture written by Vi Dutcher, PhD, language
and literature department.
Dr. Harold J. Schultz, father of Dr. Huxman, and former long-time president of Bethel College, North Newton Kansas, among other accomplishments, will bring reflections.
Also offering reflections will be Dr. Wendy L. Fletcher, president and vice-chancellor of Renison University college, affiliated with the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.
Dr. Huxman will bring the main address.
Special guests from peer institutions as well as EMU faculty will be part of the formal ceremony.

Blacks Run Clean-up With Dr. Huxman, The EMU community is invited to join Dr. Huxman at the 20th annual Black’s Run Clean-Up event. Let’s get 100 EMU community members involved in honor of our centennial celebrations and to show our
deep commitment to the local community and environment as Dr. Huxman begins her tenure.
Wear an EMU tshirt if you participate! You can still sign up, or just arrive at 9 a.m. for on
site registration.
