Email Safety

Caution should be taken when placing email addresses in plain text on a web page. The reason for this is bots (automated software) that scan pages on the internet, harvesting email addresses to store in databases that later send spam or phishing emails to millions of addresses.

Luckily, there is a safe way include an email address on a web page when necessary.

To safely include an email address in a web page:

  1. Click the “Add Link” button on the menu bar ()
  2. Select the “Email Address” option in the “1. Link to:” section
  3. Enter the email address in the space provided
  4. Hit the “OK” button

Which email address to use

Departmental email addresses should be used whenever possible to reduce the amount of manual content changes required in the event of employee turnover or extended leave. It also looks more professional.
