Surviving Finals Week: A Few Helpful Reminders

Alright folks, lets fire up the engines! Finals week is here (how? when I’m sure the semester started 2 days ago) and its time to show our professors how proficient we are in the content we learned all semester (and get those A’s right?!) Well here are some helpful tips to get through it all:

1. Get some sleep!

We all know how important sleep is for the body. A good night’s rest before the test is sure to fuel the brain and restore its energy. Did you also know that when you sleep efficiently, you enhance memory retention of learned information? It’s like you give your brain a chance to reorganize everything you crammed in there into sensible and logical streams of information. Awesome!

2. You know more than you think you do:

It’s an extra challenge having EVERYTHING we learned in EVERY class from the semester be tested on in one week. But  no matter what we do, we can never re-learn it all in a few days (hours in some circumstances). The mark of a good student is being able to learn what you can during the semester and doing your absolute best. That way when finals come, studying would be a review. And most of all, have confidence in yourself. You are actually, quite smart.

3. Reward!

Just think, it will all be over in a couple of days. Then you can go home and just relaaaaaaax. Catch up with family, friends, read a good book, watch T.V., get your hair done, eat good food, all that fun stuff.

4. You can do it!

*Breathe* You’ve got this. You will go in there, do your best, and pass each class. Besides, this isn’t the end of finals, there will be plenty more (let us not forget the Boards in medical and dental school). But for now, all our efforts will not be in vain. We’ll make it as far as we dream and succeed so long as we never give up!
