What to Expect

Come ready to sing familiar songs such as “Happy Birthday”, “Row Your Boat”, and an echo game. A short, eight-minute meeting and listening time is all that is required. No prepared solo is needed. Following the audition, children often ask, “Is that all?” The audition is not intimidating, difficult, or worrisome!

Audition Site

Eastern Mennonite Seminary building, room 203, on EMU campus. See map.

Other Information

Auditions are for children and youth in grades 2-12 (school year 2016-2017) who love to sing, want to learn how to sight read and enjoy performing. The choir is a wonderful community building activity!

Acceptance into the Shenandoah Valley Children’s Choir is based on interest, commitment, enthusiasm and musical ability. Children who love to sing, can match pitch and have positive, cooperative attitudes are invited to audition.

You may also consider the Explorers program for children ages 5-8. These non-auditioned,
non-performing classes, use movement, games and fun to teach children good singing technique, music reading and music fundamentals.
