Easter Week 6

& archive, Year B.

Prayer before reading:

Lord Jesus Christ,
You call us to come
To be with you,
And to bear the cost
Of giving up our false self.
By your Spirit help me
To see you,
To hear your voice
Help me to follow you in all of life,
And to walk in the joy and freedom of the resurrection

Season of Easter.  Week Six

Again the lectionary bids us stay and be still.  To listen.  To make our home in the presence and being of God.   We are invited to hear Jesus as he speaks to us—preparing us for this time after his resurrection as we await his ascension and the giving of the Holy Spirit.

Listening and abiding are held in loving. As we learn to love God we dwell ever more deeply in God’s presence, and listen more deeply.  Love brings us to intimate indwelling and to open and hospitable listening.  Jesus calls us into friendship – a loving relationship of knowing and being known.

This week,  listen to Jesus as he speaks to you (John 15:9-17).  What word or phrase lifts itself up for you and is offered to you by the Spirit to keep within your soul and mind to ponder and to live with?   This kind of meditative and receptive listening is an act of love, love for the one who loved us first, and calls us to love each other in the same way that we are loved.

Prayer before reading:

Lord Jesus Christ,
You come to us.
Help me to see as you see,
To recognize your voice
As I  listen;
And  to follow in your way  —
To life.
