Second Sunday After Christmas

& archive, Year A.

Lord Jesus Christ,
You call us to come
To be with you,
To hear your voice
To listen deeply to what you say,
To see what you do.
By your Spirit help me
To hear your voice
To see you
In Jesus.

Second Sunday after Christmas Day

Our lectionary guide invites us to pause, to step aside from the crowded roads, from Christmas gift exchanges, and to turn the feet of our soul towards God’s presence behind and within the Christmas season, to enter into the heavenly inn.

Here we breathe the air of eternity, here we are welcomed into the great room, where  God’s designs are breathed and spoken into being. Here we are invited to see and to hear God in and behind all that is.

So, in this place apart in the heavenly inn, turn to John’s gospel, chapter 1, verses 1-18.

You may want to light a candle – a symbol of the Light who shines in the darkness.

Settle back in your chair as you listen and see with John, and other friends of God who help us see and know God’s loving designs for us and all of creation.

Prayer before reading:

Dear God,
You come to us
In the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Help me to be present to you –
To be with you,
To listen —
With the ears of my heart.
To see—
with the eyes of my soul.

Read slowly. Listen deeply. Indwell the scripture.
