Tenth Sunday After Pentecost

& archive, Year C.

Lord Jesus Christ,
You call us to come
To be with you,
To hear your voice
To listen deeply to your word.
By your Spirit help me
To see you,
To hear your voice,
To follow you in all of life,
In the way of God’s gracious reality.

Tenth Sunday after Pentecost

This week we are led into the gospel narrative as a crowd gathers around Jesus. A man in the crowd speaks up, telling Jesus to order his brother to divide their father’s inheritance with him. Jesus declines the demand that he be judge, but goes on to give a warning:  to this man, and to us:

“Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed;
because your true life is not made up of the things you own,
no matter how rich you may be.” (Luke 12:15)

He goes on to tell a parable, in order that the words he has just spoken may be clothed in our every day reality.

This week, reflect on this warning of Jesus. Allow his words to companion you, to speak, to do their work of bringing freedom into the world of your soul—where your true self  dwells in God.
