Lunch with the Board:<\/em> Ben announced that SGA is invited to eat lunch with the Board <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>of Trustees this Friday at noon in the west dining hall.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>It\u2019s just a time to mingle with the <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>board!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span>V. Committee Reporting <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>a. Peyton\u2014Safety Committee:<\/span><\/em><span> Peyton reported that the committee looked at injuries on <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>campus over the past year and this year.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>There is also a new fire procedure for the <span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>buildings on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span>VI. Old Business<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>a. Student Fees discussion\/proposals: <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>i. CG history and dialogue:<\/span><\/em><span> Doug Wandersee and Matt Ropp came in to talk to us.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Doug shared the history of Common Grounds, which originally was thought to be a money-making entity of the University.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>It was always very clearly a place for people to <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>come together and have dialogue.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Common Grounds has made great efforts to be as <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>sustainable as possible while still providing the services it is asked for on campus.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Matt <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Ropp shared that from the managers side, they are all taking it very seriously and are <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>excited about the possibilities to make CG better.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>They talked about the proposed $7500 <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>from SGA and a match of $7500 from President\u2019s Cabinet.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>The managers feel that this is <span>\u00a0 <\/span>a number that they can work with and that will be very helpful.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>They are exploring all the different ideas and appreciate SGA\u2019s help!<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><em><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>ii. Shen and CAC discussion: <\/span><\/em><span>Ben shared<em> <\/em>that Andrew Jenner gave us some numbers <span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>with regard to Yearbook prices.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>For the Shen to be independent of SGA, each student, <span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>even seniors, would have to pay a $50 fee in addition to student fees with the option to <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>opt out if the student doesn\u2019t want the book.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>However, if too many students opt out, SGA may still need to subsidize the rest.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>SGA Exec discussed having all students pay $40 and <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>then SGA still subsidizes it a little.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Hans reported back that we can definitely look into hosting a concert here but we would need to seriously look into the cost.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>For example, Jars of Clay would cost <span>\u00a0 <\/span>anywhere from $25-30,000.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>This would be doable if we are sure that we would get a lot <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>of response from students.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>If only 150-200 students come, it would not be worth <span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>the <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>cost and effort which we could get from other concerts.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>If there is a lot of student <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>interest <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>in smaller concerts, and we make sure to find an artist to attract a lot of students, <span>\u00a0 <\/span>this is <span>\u00a0 <\/span>a very serious possibility.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Tickets usually only make up about \u00bd to \u00be of the total <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>amount <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>that pays for the concert.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>After talking to many other schools, Hans believes the <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>ticket <span>\u00a0 <\/span>cost would be $10-15 per student and $25-30 for community members, which is <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>reasonable for concerts like this.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>As CAC rep, Doug also said that CAC does pay a <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>portion of tickets for JMU concerts to EMU students and sell around 30 tickets.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Hans <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>also shared that many schools have benefited from the community coming to these events <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>and is good for the University as a whole.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>To go through with this, they would need full <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>commitment from SGA and CAC.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>He also shared that we would probably need to book <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>the band 5-7 months in advance because it takes a lot of time to plan.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Ben shared that <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>because of the current budget, this concert would not be a possibility until next year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>iii. Motion for this year\u2019s support<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/em><strong><span>Motion 20091111-2 to give Common Grounds $7500 from our general rollover <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>account for next semester and put in a request from SGA to Student Life to at least <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>match that amount to give Common Grounds : Karissa<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><strong><span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Second: Darian<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><strong><span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Motion passed unanimously<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Ben addressed the Senate and asked if there were addition questions\/suggestions regarding the raising of student fees.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Darian suggested raising the amount even more <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>than $10 with the reasoning that this is a LONG process and if we would like to increase <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>our support with Common Grounds, concerts, and additional costs on campus.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Larisa <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>also shared that students may be more supportive of the raise if it only happens ONCE <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>rather than every year when we see more needs.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>It was suggested that we look at <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>numbers on a sheet of paper: comparing what it looks like if we raise student fees $10, $20, or $25.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Darian offered to put this sheet together and pass it out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>b. SLS names: <\/span><\/em><span>This has been tabled due to the fact that Gabe isn\u2019t here, but we will be <span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>discussing it next week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span>VII. Open Floor<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span>&#8211; <\/span><\/em><span>General discussion took place regarding the Tim Jost event tonight.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>The senators that attended felt it was very well attended and thought Tim was an excellent speaker.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Larisa said that it was nice to have a publicly-recognized speaker who has credentials and is still local and knowledgeable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><span>-Peyton shared on the D.O.R.D. event tonight, which she also thought was excellent but attendance could have been better. This may have been a product of the Tim Jost event taking people away from D.O.R.D.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><span>-Karissa shared that Mark Sawin, Peter Dula, and Ann Hershberger are lined up to speak at the student-faculty forum.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>She is still looking for a fourth person, but we may only have 3 for this semester.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 10pt\"><em><span>IX.
