In my previous entry I noted that Philip Zimbardo, in his book The Lucifer Effect<\/em>, suggests “A Ten-step Program to Resist Unwanted Influences.” Because this has generated interest I will list his 10 steps below.\u00a0 These are in the form of personal commitments. For his explanation of each see pp. 451-456.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 “I made a mistake.”<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 “I am mindiful.”\u00a0\u00a0 (Be more aware of clues – operate less on auto-pilot.)<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 “I am responsible.”<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 “I will assert my unique identity.”<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0 “I respect authority but rebel against unjust authority.”<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0 “I want group acceptance, but value my independence.”<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0 “I will be more frame-vigilant.” (Be more aware of how statements, etc. are framed.)<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0 “I will balance my time perspective.”\u00a0 (Keep things in a larger time perspective.)<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0 “I will not sacrifice personal or civic freedoms for the illusion of security.”<\/p>\n
