I\u2019ve been playing around with this poem for months. Studying in the field of peacebuilding has been the most significant step into a beautifully messy deconstruction of my life, beliefs, and emotions. The anger and frustration of this poem, I hope, will one day turn into joy and rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let Me Rest<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I keep hearing people wanting to return<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To the new normal,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But there is no such thing as normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Normal maintains the pressure,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Keeps the pyramid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want it shaken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want it crumbled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe then<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ll all find ourselves on our knees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want us to grieve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I want us to feel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Feel the dust of ruins,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Letting it sift through our fingers<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maybe some of us can feel every particle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deem each one as a moment of release<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From illusions<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of convenience,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of scarcity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let me rest!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not a race!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why can’t I stop,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And dream<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of a world that moves differently?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps a little more slowly,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A little more warmly,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And a little more honestly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us rest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is not a race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
