In her final year, Summer Williams, a PXD student created a toolkit for people working and beginning to work in peacebuilding. She developed this during her practicum with New Bridges Immigrant Resource Center. The PXD practicum is an opportunity for students to gain professional experience while also developing as reflective practitioners, applying the knowledge and skills they are learning in the classroom. The toolkit she developed encourages peacebuilding practitioners to pay attention to their mental, physical and emotional well-being in order to fully give themselves to the work. Her theory of change is “If Peacebuilders do the work of building resilience, then their capacity for mitigating stress and secondary trauma will increase”. Williams also provides some self-care examples if people are not already practicing.

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”

–Audre Lorde
