Matthew and David are both graduates of Eastern Mennonite University.<\/p>\n<p>Josh Brockway presents on, \u201cTactical Asceticism: Transformation in the Fissures of Empire.\u201d Josh is the Director of Spiritual Life and Discipleship for the Church of the Brethren, located in Elgin, Illinois.\u00a0 Josh is also a doctoral candidate in Church History at the Catholic University of America.\u00a0 His research focuses on the ascetic movements of the 5th and 6th centuries.\u00a0 He is the current Book Review Editor and Blog Editor for Brethren Life and Thought.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan Hershberger presents on \u201cPower, Authority, and Renewal: The <em>Concern<\/em> Movement, Paul Peachey, and the Fragmented Institutionalization of Mennonite Life.\u201d Nathan is a senior History and Philosophy\/Theology major at Eastern Mennonite University.\u00a0 He was born in Managua, Nicaragua and grew up in Harrisonburg, Va.\u00a0 He is married to Kaitlin Heatwole.<\/p>\n<p>Conference planners <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/podcast\/2012\/04\/14\/2012\/04\/13\/2012\/04\/13\/empire-and-the-power-of-withdrawal-isaac-villegas\/www.restorativetheology.blogspot.com\/\">Brian Gumm<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.anabaptistmissionalproject.org\/AMP\/AMP_Home.html\">Aaron Kauffman<\/a> describe the conference in this way:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnabaptism at its best has been a series of attempts both to live into God\u2019s in-breaking occupation and to faithfully occupy the empires of this fallen age, signaling the shalom to come. Anabaptists have gone about this work by imaginatively patterning their worship and witness after the New Testament communities of Jesus. Come explore ways in which the Anabaptist tradition can help inspire faithful occupation in today\u2019s world.
