{"id":6496,"date":"2014-05-15T14:48:51","date_gmt":"2014-05-15T18:48:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/peacebuilder\/?post_type=cjp_alumni&#038;p=6496"},"modified":"2018-02-15T16:57:18","modified_gmt":"2018-02-15T20:57:18","slug":"morrison-virginia","status":"publish","type":"cjp_alumni","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/peacebuilder\/cjp-alumni\/morrison-virginia\/","title":{"rendered":"Virginia Morrison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ms. Morrison is the Director of Programs at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.karunacenter.org\">Karuna Center<\/a> since 2015.\u00a0She has more than 20 years of experience in conflict transformation domestically and internationally.\u00a0Ms. Morrison has conducted assessments and designed and co-led multi-year projects involving community reconciliation, dialogue, trauma resilience and leadership throughout West Africa and East Africa, as well as the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>She has consulted with Amnesty International; Public Conversations Project; and a range of universities, prison systems and US health care systems. As a founding member of Mediators Beyond Borders, she has co-led efforts to incorporate trauma-informed practice into all of MBB\u2019s programming. Her fieldwork has included building refugee youth\u2019s resilience to the pull to fight in South Sudan\u2019s civil war, integrating former child soldiers and sex slaves into post-conflict Liberian communities, and providing technical assistance to Kenyan pastoralist communities severely impacted by lethal inter-tribal violence. She has mentored local NGOs developing interfaith coexistence and trauma resilience in Northern Nigerian communities devastated by Boko Haram, helped strengthen networks of women throughout Iraq, and oversaw major reform of mental health care and parole revocation practices in California\u2019s prisons.
