In his new book, &#8220;Meditations on the Beatitudes,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/drc972\">Don Clymer<\/a>, assistant professor of Spanish at Eastern Mennonite University, looks to apply those teachings to real-life situations and truly &#8220;live the Beatitudes.&#8221;<a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2011\/09\/living-the-beatitudes-focus-of-clymers-book\/clymer_don2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-8610\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8610\" src=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/is\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2011\/09\/clymer_don2-199x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2011\/09\/clymer_don2-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/43\/2011\/09\/clymer_don2.jpg 357w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 199px) 100vw, 199px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I took stories from my time in Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico and paired them with the Beatitudes,&#8221; said Clymer. &#8220;The cultural context of the marginalized people in these stories is more like the time of Jesus, challenging our comfortable middle class views of what Jesus meant.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Clymer looks at the contrasting cultures of Latin America and the United States and offers reflections on those differences. Clymer tells a story that goes along with each beatitude to illustrate the parallels and discrepancies in cultures. He then closes each chapter with a meditation and prayer.<\/p>\n<p>Clymer served five years as director of\u00a0EMU\u2019s cross-cultural program and has worked with <a href=\"http:\/\/emm.org\/\">Eastern Mennonite Missions<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcc.org\/\">Mennonite Central Committee<\/a> in Central America and Mexico.
