Each grant, awarded at $1,200, supports initiatives that foster a more inclusive, equitable, and supportive community at EMU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The program offers faculty, staff, and students the opportunity to develop ideas that advance opportunities to grow, learn, and belong together. \u201cInclusive excellence\u201d is a research-based approach that encourages proactive, collaborative steps towards creating a community in which all belong. These grants are possible thanks to the generosity of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2021\/family-honors-stoltzfus-and-hertzler-legacies-through-endowment-of-international-student-scholarship-and-dei-support\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Jose Koshy \u201876<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Jean Koshy-Hertzler \u201879<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Fall 2024<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Lunar New Year APISA Trip<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A trip to Washington, D.C., to celebrate the Lunar New Year and promote cultural appreciation and exposure for all students, featuring visits to Chinatown and the National Museum of Asian Art. <em>Project co-leaders<\/em>:\u00a0<strong>Leah Frankenfield,<\/strong> student;<strong>\u00a0Arushi Sachan,<\/strong> former admissions counselor; Asian and Pacific Islander Student Alliance, club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Infusing Inclusion II DC<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A mural project led by the Washington Community Scholars&#8217; Center (WCSC) at EMU&#8217;s Nelson Good House, designed to visually express inclusivity and solidarity within a diverse student and neighborhood setting. <em>Project co-leaders<\/em>: <strong>Ann Butwell,<\/strong> WCSC \u2013 associate director of student life and program administration; <strong>Ryan Good,<\/strong> associate professor of urban studies, program director \u2013 WCSC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>ADA Compliance Improvement and Panel<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Campus improvements to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), along with a panel discussion to raise awareness of accessibility and disability-related issues. <em>Project co-leaders<\/em>: <strong>Brandon Ewing, <\/strong>student; <strong>Mike Stellwag, <\/strong>Aramark maintenance supervisor; Disability Student Alliance, club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>BIPOC Student Support<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A support group for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) students offering dialogue, workshops, mentorship, and resources to address systemic inequities. <em>Project co-leaders<\/em>: <strong>Tamika Jackson,<\/strong> assistant professor of counseling; <strong>Yenifer Dottin-Carter,<\/strong> student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:40px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\">Spring 2025<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Let&#8217;s Talk About Mental Health<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Panel and discussion circles addressing mental health issues affecting diverse student populations, including LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC students. <em>Project co-leaders<\/em>: <strong>Deanna Durham,<\/strong> associate professor of social work &amp; sociology, program director &#8211; social work; <strong>Bria Wright,<\/strong> student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Black Voices Matter: A Student Listening Summit<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An off-campus retreat for Black students to discuss barriers, foster belonging, and offer recommendations to improve racial equity at EMU. <em>Project co-leaders<\/em>: <strong>Venissa White,<\/strong> director of Safer Together &#8211; sexual violence prevention &amp; response coordinator for Student Life; <strong>Celeste<br \/>Thomas,<\/strong> director of Multicultural Student Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>LGBTQIA+ Support Training<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Training for faculty and counselors on supporting LGBTQIA+ students, especially transgender students, led by a certified EMU alum. <em>Project co-leaders<\/em>: <strong>Nikki Dovel, LPC,<\/strong> lead counselor for EMU Counseling<br \/>Services;
