{"id":53467,"date":"2022-11-30T11:07:54","date_gmt":"2022-11-30T16:07:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/?p=53467"},"modified":"2022-12-08T10:30:38","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T15:30:38","slug":"emu-advancements-braydon-hoover-named-10-under-40","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2022\/emu-advancements-braydon-hoover-named-10-under-40\/","title":{"rendered":"EMU Advancement\u2019s Braydon Hoover named \u201810 Under 40\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Braydon Hoover<\/strong>, associate vice president for advancement at Eastern Mennonite University, has been recognized by the Shenandoah Valley Business Journal as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dnronline.com\/news\/shenandoah_valley_business_journal\/hoover-helps-raise-money-to-support-local-needs\/article_ec5fb7ab-9035-5eb4-b931-81150996117b.html\">\u201c10 Under 40\u201d honoree<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual awards recognize young professionals in the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County areas. He is among the leadership of a 12-member advancement team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoover names <em>community<\/em> and <em>service<\/em> among his deeply rooted values. He enjoys listening to people\u2019s stories and connecting them \u201cto students that, like them, maybe needed that financial support when they were younger,\u201d he says in the article.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A 2011 graduate of EMU, Hoover had planned to attend medical school. However, embarking on a full-time role immediately after graduation carried him into a different professional path with the same motivation for helping others. He also holds an MA in organizational leadership from EMU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t grow up thinking \u2018I want to be a fundraiser!\u2019 Nobody does. But serving EMU, making it more accessible for more students, is the most meaningful work in my life,\u201d Hoover said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoover has played a significant role in recent fundraising efforts, including contributing to record-setting growth of overall fundraising initiatives and providing strategic leadership to the University Fund, EMU\u2019s perennial fundraising priority.&nbsp; Currently, Hoover is helping to secure leadership gifts for the <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/track\">new track and field complex<\/a>, and encourage momentum in the ongoing <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/campaign\">Forward Together Campaign<\/a>. He also helped establish and now leads the annual EMU giving day each spring, LovEMU Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is so fitting for Braydon to be publicly recognized for his exemplary service and leadership in the Harrisonburg community,\u201d said Vice President for Advancement <strong>Kirk Shisler<\/strong>. \u201cThis is truly an extension of Braydon&#8217;s outstanding leadership and impact as a member of EMU&#8217;s advancement team where his passion and talent for promoting the university\u2019s mission in service to our students is most evident and appreciated by our broader campus community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hoover\u2019s passion for community is exemplified in two major leadership roles within service organizations. In 2017, he joined the board of directors at United Way of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, and currently serves as its resource development committee chair. During that time, United Way has reoriented their focus to serve the Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) population, concentrating on alleviating the challenges of housing, childcare, and transportation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shift towards \u201cconvening community decision-makers and partners, equitably distributing resources, and raising awareness to address our community\u2019s most pressing challenges\u201d has enabled United Way to move from a traditional role as \u201clocal charitable clearinghouse\u201d&nbsp; into a needed role as community consultant, Hoover said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe like to say that we aren\u2019t your grandparents\u2019 United Way,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Amanda Leech<\/strong>, executive director of United Way, expressed appreciation for Hoover\u2019s dedication to the organization: \u201cBraydon has been an outstanding board member over the last five years and has given tremendous amounts of time and his talents to further our mission and grow our local impact. (Photo by Derrick Chirinos)<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEMU and Rotary are natural partners as each are concerned about social justice and the wellbeing of our communities both locally and abroad,\u201d he said. \u201c\u2018Service Above Self\u2019 is Rotary\u2019s official motto, one definitely shared by EMU.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2019, Hoover helped establish the university\u2019s first Rotaract Club, the collegiate wing of Rotary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is an absolute honor to serve alongside so many of our local leaders who recognize Rotary as a changemaker in addressing our community\u2019s needs,\u201d Hoover said. \u201cWe may not all be at the same place along the political, theological, or social spectrum, but we know how to roll up our sleeves to help others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current club president <strong>Wayne Witmer \u201887<\/strong>, president and CEO of Harman Construction, praised Hoover\u2019s leadership during the pandemic: \u201cI am fortunate that Braydon preceded me in the president\u2019s role. I found him to be a true professional at all times who shows a lot of emotional intelligence and strives to treat everyone with respect and consideration.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really just grateful to be surrounded by incredible people dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of others, here at EMU, at United Way, at Rotary, and throughout our community.
