Already in 2021, the trio have headlined the presidential and vice-presidential inauguration celebration and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tZckpt_PqRI\"> partnered with ESPN for a global promotional campaign<\/a> of Wimbledon tennis tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Kimberlea Daggy<\/strong> of WMRA&#8217;s All Things Considered reprised her role as event host.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/EMUDeptMusic\/videos\/599600701217670\">View the livestream recording.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The concert is a fundraiser for the EMU Music Scholarship Fund. <a href=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/gala\/\">Donate and find the concert program here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Afton Rhodes-Lehman<\/strong>, soprano (below), and Professor <strong>James Richardson<\/strong>, baritone, were the featured vocalists, for a performance of <em>Dona Nobis Pacem, <\/em>composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Bergey conducted the Chamber Orchestra and University Choir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/K3w5GMECxcv1aqrhRqmuwnMiqPBLF7GgsuxbZOPtN7RxO6tHF1vPSiE-QpwOxPgUDEfI2cqPVBFztrvUZg4ukh7UDMsQfp8WHaP8V_0K_kkQ8GWRz6exNttv6B_ysf1v91WEM_hs\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/_4tneV5-H3CY8JIvwuIWsi1OPreYPLdw2k9jHlOiM6l4WF2zgtUN9v6qXYUVWGj4Y-jv9cofChXufhrSIhnFKn132u-wCdLIEXL4L7St_0GTh55aqU4Wa3yJcrXsVnRO-11OgmRF\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Bergey selected the masterwork for its theme of a cry for peace, a fitting celebration of EMU\u2019s new program enabling students to combine peacebuilding and music studies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Williams, a pacifist who served in World War I in the medical corps and as an artillery officer, composed the work in 1936 \u2013 and it was his \u201ccry that a second [war] would not break out,\u201d Bergey said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bergey described the piece as \u201cpowerful and raw, depicting the ugliness of war using drums as artillery, the sounds of a funeral march and screaming in the face of death. But within it, while coming face to face with death and war, there comes the realization of a shared humanity, even across enemy lines. This humanity is also capable of things much greater, more admirable, and even [like] that which we are called to in scripture.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bergey ended his introduction with a reminder that more than 40 conflicts are ongoing throughout the world: \u201cMay we continue to work for peace across our shared humanity. Soloists were&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u201cIn the Mood,\u201d <strong>Thaddeus Jackson<\/strong> on tenor sax, <strong>Sophia Gott <\/strong>on alto sax, <strong>Travis Trotter \u201899<\/strong>, on trumpet;<\/li><li>\u201cIn a Mellow Tone,\u201d <strong>Andrew Troyer \u201819<\/strong> on trumpet, Professor <strong>David Berry<\/strong> on piano, and<\/li><li>\u201cManteca,\u201d <strong>Joshua Ayers \u201820 <\/strong>on tenor sax.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The String Queens joined the Jazz Band for a finale of \u201cAin\u2019t No Mountain High Enough.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\"><strong>Special thanks to sponsors Truist and support from the J.
