After a decade of service at Eastern Mennonite University and the Center for Justice and Peacebuilding<\/a>, Professor Carl Stauffer<\/a> <\/strong>has accepted a new position as senior expert in reconciliation at the U.S. Institute of Peace. The Washington D.C.-based organization is funded by Congress and works globally with country partners to reduce violence and advance peaceful resolutions to conflict.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are grateful for Carl\u2019s teaching and mentoring within our CJP community over the years and his significant legacy that is embodied in the work and contributions of his students around the world,\u201d said CJP Executive Director Jayne Docherty<\/a><\/strong>. \u201cWe are so proud that USIP has tapped one of our faculty for this important position and look forward to a continuing relationship with Carl as he shares what he is learning and doing in Washington.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stauffer joined the faculty of CJP in 2010, teaching graduate-level courses in restorative and transitional justice. He also taught a range of courses, including peacebuilding theory and practice, nonviolence, international development, and faith formation for justice and peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stauffer helped to launch the Zehr Institute for Restorative Justice<\/a> in 2012 and served as co-director first with Howard Zehr and then with his colleague, Professor Johonna Turner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among his contributions to CJP, he developed the prospectus for the MA in Restorative Justice program<\/a>. The second graduate degree offered at CJP, the MARJ was accredited in fall 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 2015-17, Stauffer secured and worked with CJP staff to implement a 3-year grant from the Porticus Foundation. As a result of this funding, the Zehr Institute was able to host a high-level international consultation<\/a>, a public conference<\/a>, and a bi-national listening project<\/a> exploring the potential for restorative justice as a social justice movement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A product of this funding is a forthcoming anthology, Listening to the Movement \u2013 Essays on new growth and new challenges in Restorative Justice <\/em><\/a>, co-edited by Stauffer and Ted Lewis (<\/em>Wipf & Stock Publishers, 2021).\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
