Their story is told in the student-produced documentary film <em>Persist.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow the team as they pound mile after mile on foot, bicycle, and in the water. The film was shot and produced by students in Professor <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/faculty-staff\/?show=holsoppj\">Jerry Holsopple<\/a><\/strong>\u2019s video production class at races, on the track, and in the pool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Watch the trailer:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"EMU Triathlon - A VACA Student Film\" width=\"848\" height=\"477\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2sDfEE7gDDo?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Women\u2019s triathlon is labeled a \u201cemerging sport\u201d within the NCAA, so all events and championships include teams from Division I-III. This means the team regularly competed against much larger schools in their four-event season, culminating in an October qualifier for the national championships. Senior <strong>Abigail Shelly<\/strong> ended her season with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emuroyals.com\/sports\/wtri\/2019-20\/releases\/20191116x7jqxp\">13th-place<\/a> finish in Tempe, Arizona.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From pre-competition jitters to simply mastering the many skills of three different sports, the film showcases how individual courage and dedication inspired the entire team. Senior <strong>Emma Hoover<\/strong> particularly struggled to learn how to swim competitively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the documentary, Hoover recalls, \u201cwe get to the point where we\u2019re starting our swim warm-ups, and there\u2019s this moment, where Abigail will look at everybody, and Abigail goes, \u2018okay, no more negative thoughts.\u2019 And she did it every single race. And I just felt like, \u2018okay \u2026 now is the time to just let it all go, this is what it is.
