The EMU disc golf team made a clean sweep at the EMU Royals Qualifier and earned a trip to the College Disc Golf National Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This was the team’s second bid for a national championship spot<\/a>. In the fall, in their first-ever qualifier at Liberty University, the quartet of Trevor Oyer<\/strong>, his brother\u00a0Jared<\/strong>,\u00a0Cameron Byer<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Silas Driver<\/strong> finished one stroke away. The players are the movers and shakers behind the new\u00a0crowd-funded disc golf course<\/a>\u00a0on The Hill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fighting Saturday\u2019s unforgiving conditions, <\/strong>Driver\u00a0started the Royals\u2019 momentum early, winning the individual round in the morning with a score of 49 (-5). He was three strokes ahead of second place Pete Curran of Liberty, and four strokes ahead of teammate\u00a0Trevor Oyer<\/strong>\u00a0at 53 (-1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Byer\u00a0shot a 59 (+5) and\u00a0Jared Oyer<\/strong>\u00a0was at 65 (+11). EMU\u2019s average score of 57 gave them a one-stroke lead after the individual round, ahead of Liberty\u2019s B team at 58. View individual round results.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then in the afternoon team round, the men held off a strong charge from Tennessee Tech, which started the round in third place. EMU put together a score of 54, bettered only by a 53 from the Golden Eagles, but good enough to stay in first place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Royals won with a total score of 111. Tennessee Tech was second in 112. Both teams earned a bid to the CDG National Championship April 1-4 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liberty finished third in 115, with Lehigh fourth at 118.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEven though the day was cold and windy, our team could not be happier with how the tournament went,\u201d exclaimed Trevor Oyer. \u201cSilas shot the hot individual round and we played well together during the team round. We are very excited about competing at Nationals in April!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
