An hour and a half&#8217;s drive from campus, Old Rag has nonetheless beckoned to outdoorsy students for centuries. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A contingent of EMU students led by Explore club secretary <strong>Collin Longenecker<\/strong> made the climb earlier this month. That first trip, &#8220;we had 12 people show up and had an amazing day, which we concluded by heading to my parents&#8217; house for soup and bread.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure experience has been that you end up in groups of two to six people that you get to spend the majority of the hike with&#8221; depending on your pace, Longenecker said. &#8220;It takes a decent amount of planning to do this hike because it is not that close to campus and it takes a really long time.&#8221; According to the park service, it takes the average hiker seven and a half hours to complete miles into the hike, the rock scramble begins \u2013&nbsp;where hikers navigate through crevasses and over boulders for the remaining mile and a half to the summit.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
