The <\/a>board of directors of <\/a>Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary<\/a> (AMBS) has announced the appointment of David W. Boshart<\/strong>, PhD, of Wellman, Iowa, as the next president, beginning Jan. 1, 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boshart graduated in 1986 from Eastern Mennonite University with a degree in Biblical studies and theology. He earned a Master of Arts in Religion with a major in New Testament from Eastern Mennonite Seminary in 1987. In 2012, he was honored with EMU’s Distinguished Service Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He will serve as the fourth president since Goshen Biblical Seminary and Mennonite Biblical Seminary incorporated as Associated (now Anabaptist) Mennonite Biblical Seminary in 1994. He succeeds Sara Wenger Shenk<\/strong> ’75<\/strong>, who retired June 30 after nine years as president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDavid Boshart\nembodies the core values of Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary and, on\nbehalf of the search committee, I am delighted he has accepted our invitation\nto serve as our next president,\u201d said Miriam\nBook<\/strong> of Lititz, Pennsylvania, a member of the AMBS Board of Directors and\nchair of the search committee. \u201cHe brings the preferred attributes of\nexperience in pastoral and church leadership, administration and education\nidentified by stakeholders both on campus and throughout Mennonite Church USA\nand Mennonite Church Canada. The board looks forward to working in partnership\nwith him as he leads AMBS into its next chapter.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAMBS is\nrecognized across the church and around the world as a faithful and generative\nlearning community that forms skilled leaders for God\u2019s reconciling mission in\nthe world,\u201d said Boshart. \u201cI am honored by the strong and clear call from the\nsearch committee, board and faculty to serve as the next president.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2010, Boshart has served as executive conference minister for Central Plains Mennonite Conference (CPMC) of Mennonite Church USA<\/a>. As part of this role, he was responsible for supporting emerging congregations and staffing a partnership with Mennonite Mission Network<\/a> and Iglesia Cristiana Menonita de Colombia<\/em> (Colombia Mennonite Church) in support of Anabaptist networks in Ecuador and Venezuela. Prior to CPMC, he served as a pastor for more than 25 years in Mennonite congregations in Iowa and Virginia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boshart has a PhD in leadership studies with an emphasis in missional theology from the School of Education at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Michigan. His doctoral dissertation was published as <\/a>Becoming Missional: Denominations and New Church Development in Complex Social Contexts<\/a><\/em> (Wipf and Stock, 2010). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boshart\u2019s teaching experience includes serving as appointed associate professor at the Andrews University School of Education (2009\u2013present) and as an adjunct faculty member at AMBS (2014\u201315) and Eastern Mennonite University (2010\u201315). For AMBS, he also taught an online Introduction to Theological Studies course as part of a pilot program for Hmong students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boshart also will bring to his new role his experiences of serving in\nvolunteer leadership roles across the Mennonite Church. In July, he completed a\ntwo-year term as moderator of Mennonite Church USA<\/a> (2017\u201319),\nhaving served on the denomination\u2019s <\/a>Executive\nBoard<\/a> since 2007 and on the board\u2019s Executive Committee since\n2008. He was a member of the AMBS Board of Directors (1999\u20132007) \u2014 also serving\nas chair (2003\u201305).  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boshart has lived in Iowa for much of his life. He and his wife, Shana Peachey Boshart ’85<\/strong>, denominational minister for faith formation for Mennonite Church USA and a 2017 AMBS alumna, have three adult sons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
