Eastern Mennonite University\u2019s Homecoming and Family Weekend 2018 offers everything from athletics events to music and theater performances, receptions, class reunions and more. Events are Friday, Oct. 12, through Sunday, Oct. 14.<\/span><\/p>\n

Friday<\/b><\/h3>\n

At a luncheon, the <\/span>Jubilee alumni program<\/b> \u2013 alumni who attended EMU 50 or more years ago \u2013 inducts the class of 1968.<\/span><\/p>\n

The <\/span>Margaret Martin Gehman Gallery features an art exhibit<\/strong> by five 2016 graduates: Jonathan Bush, Scott Eyre, Caleb Schlabach, Stephanie Toth and Londen Wheeler.<\/span><\/p>\n

EMU <\/span>field hockey<\/b> takes on St. Mary\u2019s on the turf field in the evening.<\/span><\/p>\n

The day ends with an <\/span>alumni music celebration<\/b><\/a> featuring the Bubble Sisters and the EMU Jazz Ensemble, hymn singing and performances by four a cappella groups that include alumni or current students: Cantore, Shekinah, Striking Accord and EMU\u2019s Emulate Choral Ensemble.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saturday<\/b><\/h3>\n

Saturday morning promises food for thought and nourishment, both at various receptions and breakfasts [check the schedule for more options]<\/span>:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • A<\/span> Suter Science Seminar<\/b> features Dr. Trent Hummel \u201897<\/a>, associate professor of pediatrics at Cincinnati Children\u2019s Hospital Medical Center<\/span>; <\/span><\/li>\n
  • A panel of local teachers shares experiences with restorative justice in school settings during the <\/span>education department reception and Jesse T. Byler Series<\/b>; <\/span><\/li>\n
  • The <\/span>Haverim breakfast and program<\/b> features John Tyson \u201809, a pastor at Des Moines Mennonite church.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Current students and business alumni meet-and-greet during a career connections networking event<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    A <\/span>homecoming celebration<\/b> in Lehman Auditorium provides opportunity to celebrate alumni award recipients, take class photos (professional photo for classes celebrating 10, 25, and 50 years), and enjoy seeing old friends.\u00a0<\/span>Class reunions and lunches<\/b>\u00a0are for grad years ending in 3 and 8, and, in the Royals\u2019 Den, for parents.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Affinity group gatherings<\/b> include Black Student Union, Honors alumni, Ireland cross-cultural, various athletic teams, Martin and Lehman houses and more. A\u00a0Cords of Distinction alumni reception<\/b> is also scheduled.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

    EMUTenTalks: Impact. Influence. Inspire<\/b><\/a> returns this year to the MainStage Theater with dynamic 10-minute presentations by professors <\/span>Judy Mullet<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>David Evans<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>David Brubaker<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The <\/span>Peace, Love and Little Donut Run<\/b> blends three compatible passions \u2013 running, t-shirts and donuts \u2013 on a two-mile course for all ages. <\/span><\/p>\n

    The afternoon <\/span>fall festival<\/b> features the Walking Roots Band, tailgating, local food trucks, a Li\u2019l Royals\u2019 Zone for children, and an alumni and parent reception tent.<\/span><\/p>\n

    Women\u2019s volleyball takes on Ferrum.\u00a0<\/span>Women\u2019s soccer <\/b>takes on Roanoke, with <\/span>men\u2019s soccer<\/b> competing against Lynchburg.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The <\/span>theater presentation<\/b> on Saturday night is Professor Justin Poole\u2019s \u201cThe Gospel Project: A Theatrical Journey through the Life of Jesus Christ<\/a>.”<\/span><\/p>\n

    Sunday<\/b><\/h3>\n

    The <\/span>Homecoming worship service<\/b>\u00a0includes <\/span>Alumni Awards recipients<\/b> Claudette Monroy \u201810<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Regina Horst \u201885 Chacha<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Gilberto Perez, Jr. \u201894, GC \u201899<\/span><\/a> speaking about their callings.<\/span><\/p>\n
