We were even contacted by several police departments who wanted to participate in the three-day retreat, which was limited to invitees.<\/p>\n<p>The attention continued when we moved the article to the most prominent place on our university website, with a photo (above) of Professors Howard Zehr and Carl Stauffer with Harrisonburg Police Department Lieutenant Kurt Boshart.<\/p>\n<p>The attention shows that restorative justice is on the move! The signs have been featured on NPR, Huffington Post and several metropolitan television news shows. We&#8217;re just waiting for the story to get to Good Morning America!<strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>3. <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2016\/01\/longtime-peacebuilding-and-organizational-development-professor-is-named-next-director-of-emus-mba-program\/\"><strong>Longtime peacebuilding and organizational development professor is named next director of EMU\u2019s MBA program <\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Dr. David Brubaker\u2019s move, after 12 years of teaching at CJP, to director of EMU\u2019s MBA program drew several hundred readers and comments on Facebook. He continues to provide his organizational expertise to CJP, while fostering continued collaboration between all graduate programs. \u201cI\u2019m excited to see the MBA program keep developing as one of those hubs within a well-integrated, creative and committed-to-excellence graduate division,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>4. <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2016\/03\/cjp-professor-lisa-schirch-finishes-first-of-a-kind-curriculum-to-improve-civilian-security-sector-relations\/\">CJP Professor Lisa Schirch finishes first-of-a-kind curriculum to improve civilian security sector relations<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In March at a conference in The Hague, Dr. Lisa Schirch released her new 300-page training manual, three years in the making, titled <em>Handbook on Human Security: A Civil-Military-Police Curriculum<\/em>. The handbook, with case studies, policy brief and two videos, are available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peaceportal.org\/web\/civil-society-and-security-sector-engagement-for-human-security\/home\">online<\/a>. She\u2019s used the case studies in a new Summer Peacebuilding Class class on \u201cPeacebuilding Approaches to Violent Extremism,\u201d yet another article that generated interest.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>5. <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2016\/02\/cjp-partners-with-kellogg-foundations-new-national-initiative-on-truth-racial-healing-and-transformation\/\">CJP partners with Kellogg Foundation\u2019s new national initiative on truth, racial healing, and transformation<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>As the W.K. Kellogg Foundation national initiative gains momentum, look for more news, from EMU and in the national media, on this groundbreaking and exciting movement <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wkkf.org\/news-and-media\/article\/2016\/01\/wkkf-leads-broad-coalition-to-launch-trht\">aimed at truth, racial healing and transformation<\/a> in the United States. Photo by Joaquin Sosa.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The goal of the multi-year project, which has garnered significant pledges of financial and moral support from a number of prominent organizations, is \u201cto address and transform present inequities linked to historic and contemporary beliefs in racial hierarchy.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>6. <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2016\/05\/be-the-community-you-wish-to-see-in-the-world-center-for-justice-and-peacebuilding-graduates-37\/\">CJP graduates celebrate at Commencement<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Commencement articles are always well-read and 2016 was no different. This year, 22 graduates earned master\u2019s degrees in conflict transformation and 15 earned graduate certificates. Of those 15, 11 were members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/cjp\/womens-leadership\/\">Women\u2019s Peacebuilding Leadership Program<\/a> from Kenya and Somaliland who were recognized in a <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2016\/01\/womens-peacebuilding-leadership-program-graduates-13-from-kenya-and-east-africa\/\">ceremony<\/a> in January in December. Four others earned a graduate certificate in conflict transformation.<\/p>\n<h3>7. <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2016\/04\/emu-professors-help-design-grant-funded-restorative-justice-pilot-project-in-mississippi-schools\/\">EMU professors help design grant-funded restorative justice pilot project in Mississippi schools<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Along with restorative justice, readers tune in to anything about restorative justice in education. Professors Kathy Evans and Johonna Turner lead this project. Evans was tapped to contribute to an article about the concept in The Atlantic: her advice attracted about 200 readers, who shared the article on Facebook.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>8.\u00a0<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2016\/01\/doreen-ruto-alumna-and-peacebuilding-partner-in-africa-is-remembered-warmly-for-her-many-gifts\/\"><strong>Doreen Ruto, alumna and peacebuilding partner in Africa, is remembered<\/strong><\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Doreen Ruto Jemutai MA \u201906 was an integral supporter and partner of Eastern Mennonite University\u2019s Center for Justice and Peacebuilding, When she died in January, the peacebuilding world lost a major partner. Doreen\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/peacebuilder\/2013\/12\/defying-dangers-women-take-leadership-roles\/\">work<\/a> spanned multiple countries in Africa, as well as the United States. In 2011, she founded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dipad.org\/\">Daima Initiatives for Peace and Development<\/a> (DiPaD) in Kenya, an organization which continues. The keynote address was given by Gail Christopher, vice president for policy and senior advisor for the Kellogg Foundation.
