{"id":16625,"date":"2013-04-08T09:34:56","date_gmt":"2013-04-08T13:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/?p=16625"},"modified":"2013-04-23T14:54:17","modified_gmt":"2013-04-23T18:54:17","slug":"golfers-gear-up-for-odac-championship-at-roanoke-invite","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2013\/golfers-gear-up-for-odac-championship-at-roanoke-invite\/","title":{"rendered":"Golfers Gear Up for ODAC Championship at Roanoke Invite"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After sitting 10th after day one at the Roanoke College Spring Collegiate on Saturday, the EMU men&#8217;s golf team struggled on Sunday, tailing to 14th place overall.<\/p>\n<p>The Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) Royals shot a 329 on day one, leading four other teams including two ODAC schools: Virginia Wesleyan and Shenandoah.\u00a0 Their 346 on the final day of the event gave them a total of 675 and cost them their spot.<\/p>\n<p>The EMU men, who were one of eight ODAC teams at the tournament, will get a chance to redeem themselves at the ODAC Championships, which are April 21-23 in Cape Charles, Va.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emuroyals.com\/sports\/mgolf\/2012-13\/bios\/alderfer%20josh%20nv9k\">Josh Alderfer<\/a><\/strong> (Faber, Va.\/Nelson County) had a low round of 80 on Saturday and was EMU&#8217;s top finisher, carding a 167 (+25).\u00a0 He was two strokes ahead of teammate <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emuroyals.com\/sports\/mgolf\/2012-13\/bios\/swartzentruber%20andre%20bd3t\">Andre Swartzentruber<\/a><\/strong> (Keezletown, Va.\/Spotswood) at 169 (+27).\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emuroyals.com\/sports\/mgolf\/2012-13\/bios\/murray%20joel%20nre9\">Joel Murray<\/a><\/strong> (Hesston, Ks.\/Hesston) had a great Saturday and came in at 170 (+28).<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emuroyals.com\/sports\/mgolf\/2012-13\/bios\/schlabach%20caleb%208anm\">Caleb Schlabach<\/a><\/strong> (Millersburg, Ohio\/Hiland) carded a 175 (+33) for the weekend, while <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emuroyals.com\/sports\/mgolf\/2012-13\/bios\/leaman%20jonathan%20hga8\">Jonathan Leaman<\/a><\/strong> (Broadway, Va.\/Broadway) overcame a tough first day to finish at 177 (+35).<\/p>\n<p>Bluefield State won the tournament with a team score of 606, one ahead of ODAC school Hampden-Sydney at 607.\u00a0 The Tigers&#8217; Rick O&#8217;Connell won the individual title with a score of 146 (+4).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After sitting 10th after day one at the Roanoke College Spring Collegiate on Saturday, the EMU men&#8217;s golf team struggled on Sunday, tailing to 14th place overall.
