EMU track & field head coach Seth D. McGuffin<\/a> was inducted into the Lynchburg (VA) College Athletics Hall of Fame Saturday, Oct. 6, 2007. <\/p>\n

McGuffin graduated with a degree in business management in 1996 and competed for the Hornets in the men’s shot put, javelin, hammer and discus during the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons. <\/p>\n

McGuffin currently holds Lynchburg College records in the shot put (indoor and outdoor) and discus. He recently had his all-time Old Dominion Athletic Conference records in both the indoor and outdoor shot put eclipsed this past year by Nathan Turner, whom McGuffin coaches at EMU.<\/p>\n

Current Record-Holder<\/h2>\n

McGuffin currently holds the outdoor championships record in the shot put and discus. He is one of only four athletes to win an event (shot put) four straight years at the ODAC indoor championships. He also repeated that feat at the outdoor championships in the shot put. <\/p>\n

In all, McGuffin won 11 conference individual titles and was named all-conference 12 times. <\/p>\n

In 1994, McGuffin made his first trip to the National Collegiate Athletic Association indoor championships and came away with his first of five NCAA All-American plaques. <\/p>\n

That same year, McGuffin would finish as the NCAA championships runner-up in the shot put and added three more All-America accolades in his senior year, finishing fourth at the indoor championships in the shot put and then fourth in both the discus and shot put at the outdoor championships. <\/p>\n

McGuffin has spent the past eight years as EMU with three of them as a head coach. He is a member of the NCAA championship committee and rules committee and completed his coaching level 2 training in endurance for the USATF (United States of America Track and Field) during the summer of 2006. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
