{"id":14327,"date":"2012-10-08T08:21:08","date_gmt":"2012-10-08T12:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/?p=14327"},"modified":"2012-10-15T14:55:00","modified_gmt":"2012-10-15T18:55:00","slug":"field-hockey-defeats-washington-and-lee-2-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2012\/field-hockey-defeats-washington-and-lee-2-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Field Hockey Defeats Washington and Lee, 2-1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The EMU field hockey women got a much-needed ODAC win Saturday, taking a 2-1 win from Washington and Lee on the road.\u00a0 The victory snapped a two-game conference losing skid and evened their ODAC record at 2-2.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Royals started quickly, firing a shot on goal less than a minute and a half in.\u00a0 On the rebound, <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emuroyals.com\/sports\/fh\/2012-13\/bios\/santiago%20adriana%20ah64\">Adriana Santiago<\/a><\/strong> (Souderton, PA\/Christopher Dock) found <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emuroyals.com\/sports\/fh\/2012-13\/bios\/brinkley%20carol%20p0ry\">Carol Brinkley<\/a><\/strong> (Chester, VA\/Thomas Dale) three feet from the cage for an easy score.\u00a0 Brinkley&#8217;s second goal of the season made it 1-0.<\/p>\n<p>Play continued tight until the second half, when the women scored again in similar fashion.\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emuroyals.com\/sports\/fh\/2012-13\/bios\/cox%20melissa%20k1wz\">Melissa Cox<\/a><\/strong> (Mountville, PA\/Hempfield) slapped a shot in the 55th minute which was saved.\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emuroyals.com\/sports\/fh\/2012-13\/bios\/blanks%20jessica%205m9r\">Jessica Blanks<\/a><\/strong> (Richmond, VA\/Manchester) was there for the rebounded goal to push the lead to 2-0.<\/p>\n<p>The insurance proved necessary, as the Generals scored on a breakaway just over a minute later.\u00a0 W&amp;L fired six more shots over the final 14 minutes, but EMU&#8217;s defense held for the 2-1 win.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Royals had a 15-11 edge in shots, including an impressive 14-3 advantage in shots on goal.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.emuroyals.com\/sports\/fh\/2012-13\/bios\/danaher%20mary%20beth%206akl\">Mary Beth Danaher<\/a><\/strong> (Matoaca, VA\/Matoaca) made two saves between the pipes to earn the win.<\/p>\n<p>Brinkley and Santiago each had five shots on goal to lead the team.<\/p>\n<p>Eastern Mennonite improves to 3-7 overall, but more importantly to 2-2 in the ODAC.\u00a0 The women are tied for fourth place in the league with games remaining against the fourth other teams in the middle of the ODAC standings.<\/p>\n<p>The Lady Royals play a non-conference date at Frostburg State on Tuesday, followed by an ODAC game at Roanoke on Wednesday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The EMU field hockey women got a much-needed ODAC win Saturday, taking a 2-1 win from Washington and Lee on the road.\u00a0 The victory snapped a two-game conference losing skid <a href=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2012\/field-hockey-defeats-washington-and-lee-2-1\/\" target=\"_self\" class=\"more-link\">... read more <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">about Field Hockey Defeats Washington and Lee, 2-1<\/span><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"author":112,"featured_media":14328,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4516,5175],"tags":[13917,14480,14601,13922,14300,11672],"feature":[],"class_list":["post-14327","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-athletics","category-field-hockey","tag-adriana-santiago","tag-carol-brinkley","tag-jessica-blanks","tag-mary-beth-danaher","tag-melissa-cox","tag-odac"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.6 -
