\nSpecs: All-ODAC Third Team (2012).\u00a0 Started all 27 games this year, averaging team highs of 13.1 points and 7.1 rebounds.\u00a0 In his three seasons, played in 78 of 84 possible games.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What is your major?\u00a0 What do you hope to do?<\/em><\/p>\n

Recreation and Sport Leadership.\u00a0 I\u2019m taking the business management aspect of it.\u00a0 I want to start my own rec center or boys or girls club.\u00a0 There\u2019s a need for it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What originally made you choose to come to EMU?<\/em><\/p>\n

At first my school choices centered around football, but they did not work out.\u00a0 I always had EMU in the back of my mind, and Coach Kirby (Dean) never gave up on me.\u00a0 So I called him up, and he let me in.\u00a0 And I\u2019m glad I did.\u00a0 I need this place.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What has it been like being a student-athlete while at EMU?<\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s been pretty cool.\u00a0 Usually you\u2019re used to being just an athlete.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t think about grades as much in high school, but when you get here they make sure you know you\u2019re also a STUDENT and not just an athlete.\u00a0 So I\u2019m learning to do what I have to do to succeed, so that I can do what I love to – have fun on the court.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What has it been like playing men\u2019s basketball here?<\/em><\/p>\n

I have learned a lot of things.\u00a0 The last two years have been so successful.\u00a0 For me to come in (as an underclassman) and get some playing time and get some wins and go that far has been great.\u00a0 And now this year, we\u2019re so young.\u00a0 We\u2019re learning to keep on going.\u00a0 It\u2019s going to come and we\u2019ll be right back where we were (the last two years).\u00a0 So I\u2019m learning to keep pushing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

You spent two years as a key sub on the team, but now you have had to quickly transition into being one of the leaders.\u00a0 Talk about those roles.<\/em><\/p>\n

It felt good to be the sub.\u00a0 I knew who I was up against.\u00a0 I came in behind an All-American (Todd Phillips).\u00a0 Coach told me what to do, and I did what I had to do.\u00a0 I would come in and make some plays and get a dunk to get the crowd going – to play my role.\u00a0 In high school I was the man, but I enjoyed playing my role.\u00a0 This year I try to teach that to the freshmen.\u00a0 Even if you sit the bench, you don\u2019t give up.\u00a0 Just keep pushing hard.\u00a0 I try to lead by example and throw my body out there. \u00a0It\u2019s a good role (to be a leader) and I\u2019m up for it.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What are one or two things you have learned from playing basketball here that you will take with you when you leave?<\/em><\/p>\n

From my freshman year, it\u2019s probably the will to never give up.\u00a0 And no matter how successful things are, you can never forget and stop trying.\u00a0 You always work hard and fight to do what you do to be successful.\u00a0 I was on academic probation and I was worried for a bit that with my grades they would give up on me.\u00a0 But I worked hard to get off of academic probation.\u00a0 So to just have the will to fight.<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
