{"id":11358,"date":"2012-02-24T17:41:47","date_gmt":"2012-02-24T22:41:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/?p=11358"},"modified":"2014-09-17T11:53:22","modified_gmt":"2014-09-17T15:53:22","slug":"professor-to-discuss-balancing-career-and-parenting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/news\/2012\/professor-to-discuss-balancing-career-and-parenting\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor to Discuss Balancing Career and Parenting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) professor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/personnel\/people\/show\/rhodesg\">Gloria Rhodes<\/a>\u2019 was interviewed for a segment, \u201cWorking Parents\u2019 Juggling Act,\u201d on what it means to balance a two-career household with parenting responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>She will speak on how to \u201cmake a fulfilling and demanding career jive with parenting.\u201d Rhodes\u2019 segment will air March 18 on WSVA-AM (550) and WBTX-AM (1470) at 7:15 and 9:15 a.m., respectively. Listeners also may hear the segment online at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shapingfamilies.com\/\">www.shapingfamilies.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rhodes, who holds a PhD in conflict analysis and resolution, is professor of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/applied-social-sciences\/peacebuilding\/\">peacebuilding and conflict studies<\/a> and chairwoman of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emu.edu\/applied-social-sciences\/\">applied social sciences department<\/a>. She teaches peacebuilding theory and practice (including mediation and group facilitation) and conflict theory and analysis.<\/p>\n<p>Her husband, Brad Lehman, works in computer programming from their home, and is also a musician, focusing on the harpsichord. Both feel very strongly that God has given them gifts and insights they want to contribute to their fields.\u00a0 They are also grateful for the gift of children in their lives. This means they work to give the children focused attention each day, which means a willingness to sacrifice &#8220;me&#8221; time and couple time during these years to spend time with their children.<\/p>\n<p>Shaping Families, launched in January 2010, airs on 18 radio stations.
