Winslow McCagg’s depiction of the Shenandoah Valley is anything but mundane.<\/p>\n

“I don’t want to paint cityscapes, I’m not interested in a lot of non-nature related things, so it really evolves out of the landscape,” said McCagg.<\/p>\n

McCagg’s work, “Place. Prose. Protest.,” will open to the public on Saturday, Feb. 4, at 4 p.m. in Eastern Mennonite University’s (EMU) Margaret Martin Gehman Art Gallery. The show will feature paintings, drawings, stone carvings and media.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Erica Garber, a student in Visual and Communication Arts (VaCA) at EMU, McCagg said the natural landscape \u2014woods, nature, water and wind\u2014 informs him.<\/p>\n

“All the color we want is out there and that’s why a lot of my paintings are about color, I don’t want to paint in shades of gray,” McCagg said.<\/p>\n

“As a painter, the excitement lies in the deeper level of observation,” said McCagg.<\/p>\n

The show will run through Feb. 19.<\/p>\n
