Virginia Colleges to Host ‘Information’ Night’ in Petersburg

Five colleges who are members of the Virginia College Fund (VCF) will host a “College Information Night” for students in the Petersburg-Hopewell area, Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008.

Averett University, Bluefield College, Eastern Mennonite University, Ferrum College and Virginia Intermont College will have representatives on hand to discuss their respective programs 7-8:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Second Ave. and Randolph Rd. (Rt. 10), Hopewell.

Students and their parents from Petersburg and Hopewell High schools are invited to attend, hear a panel presentation, talk with admissions representatives and ask questions regarding academic programs, financial aid and other vital information. Light refreshments will be served.

The College Night program is being sponsored by the Cameron Foundation of Petersburg through the Virginia College Fund. The mission of the not-for-profit foundation includes encouraging students to explore public or private higher education who might otherwise not consider it.

“The Virginia College Fund is most grateful to First Baptist Church for hosting this important event,” said Dr. William E. (Will) Pearson, executive director of the VCF. “It is our hope that the evening will result in changed lives and new opportunities for the students of Petersburg and Hopewell. We look forward to being a part of it.”
