Michael Card Concert Coming to Campus

Michael Card, contemporary Christian music artist and writer

Veteran contemporary Christian music artist and writer Michael Card will be in concert along with special guest Andrew Peterson 7:30 p.m. Friday, Apr. 20, in Lehman Auditorium.

Over the past 25 years, Card has recorded over 20 albums, authored or co-authored 14 books, hosted two radio programs and written for a wide range of magazines.

Among his best-known compositions are “El Shaddai,” Love Crucified Arose” and “Emmanuel.” His newest album release, “The Hidden Face of God,” focuses on praise and worship through a rediscovery of lament in the Psalms.

Special Guest: Andrew Peterson

Peterson, who will open the concert for Michael Card, is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter with a love for storytelling that is evident on his album, “The Far Country.” His credits include a 2001 Top Ten radio hit, “Nothing to Say,” and a Dove Award nomination for his single, “Family Man.”

Although well-established as a musician, Card struggled with trying to condense biblical truths into a three-minute song. He moved naturally into the field of book writing, where he has received numerous awards, and articles for publications ranging from “Discipleship Journal” to “Physician’s Magazine.”

He also hosts a radio program, “In the Studio With Michael Card,” carried on the Moody Radio Network. Each 55-minute show is structured around Card’s three passions – community, creativity and commentary – based on his belief that “it is out of community . . . the impoverished power that sets the soul free . . . that the gospel comes to life.”

The program airs locally on WNLR, 1150 AM, Churchville.

Reserved tickets are $18 and $20 for Gold Circle (the first 10 rows of the center section of Lehman Auditorium) and are available from the EMU box office, 540-432-4582 or on-line at www.emu.edu/boxoffice.
