WEMC Revives All-Christmas Music Format

Do you hear what I hear? Christmas music is returning to the airwaves of WEMC, 91.7 FM, Eastern Mennonite University’s public radio station.

New general manager Jon Kauffmann-Kennel is bringing back WEMC’s tradition of playing solely Christmas music for nearly the entire month of December.

“When I came to WEMC this summer one of the comments I most frequently heard was how much people enjoyed, and missed, all the Christmas music,” said Kauffmann-Kennel. “I decided that we wanted to revive that tradition.”

Under the banner of “WEMC’s Classical Christmas,” the station’s holiday programming will feature Christmas carols, instrumental arrangements of carols and longer works composed for the season, such as Handel’s “Messiah” and Vivaldi’s “Gloria.”

WEMC will begin incorporating numerous Christmas selections during the week of December 1, then begin full-time “Classical Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. 7.

WEMC, 91.7 on the FM dial, broadcasts from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Founded in 1955, it is Virginia’s first public radio station.
