Furthermore, critics\nof the system note that it has become less person-centered. As a result, many\norganizations are transitioning to a care delivery system that emphasizes and\nre-focuses on the needs of their patients and other individuals impacted by\ntheir services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This\ntransition can be thought of as an <em>adaptive\nchallenge<\/em>, or one with no clear-cut solution; it cannot be comprehensively\nsolved with technical or mechanical skills. Instead, organizations must assess\ntheir normative valuesand the\nmanner in which they provide care to individuals. Adaptive organizations must\nthen be able to generate novel approaches in response to such assessment.\nLeaders within these transitioning organizations have an especially important\nrole in aiding team members to adapt to change and tackle these challenges.\nPhysicians and other practitioners are usually in positions of leadership, and\nthus play a role in promoting change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Three vital skills that are characteristic to\neffective adaptive leadership include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Delineating goals<\/strong> &#8211; An effective adaptive\nleader sets clear parameters and expectations of the team, so that everyone\ninvolved can begin the process of problem-solving.<\/li><li><strong>Empowering members<\/strong> &#8211; An adaptive leader fosters\nan environment where team members feel that their input and innovative ideas\nare welcomed and trusted.<\/li><li><strong>Challenging the status quo <\/strong>&#8211; Leaders must be able to not\nonly identify blatant problem areas, but also confront complacency by assessing\nthe organization\u2019s normative values. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The\neffectiveness and quality of care that healthcare organizations provide depends\nupon its level of adaptability. A successful organization possesses the ability\nto grow and respond to external pressures appropriately.
