{"id":243,"date":"2017-06-14T13:34:12","date_gmt":"2017-06-14T13:34:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/ma-biomedicine\/?p=243"},"modified":"2017-06-14T13:34:12","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T13:34:12","slug":"lets-get-real","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/ma-biomedicine\/2017\/06\/14\/lets-get-real\/","title":{"rendered":"Let&#8217;s Get Real"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Cheryl Doss<\/p>\n<p>Like all things that are new and challenging, it isn\u2019t always easy.\u00a0 At times it is frustrating, difficult, tiresome, and just not fun.\u00a0 At those times, it easy for our students to get discouraged and wonder is it worth it.\u00a0 But, thankfully, there is always a classmate or faculty\/staff to ready encourage and lift up those who are feeling low.\u00a0 A renewed sense of purpose and energy replaces the feelings of defeat, and the focus returns to continue the journey.<\/p>\n<p>Many of our students come to our program because they need to strengthen their GPA and test scores to be more competitive applicants for medical, dental, physicians assistant, physical therapy, or veterinary shool.\u00a0 Others come because they recently decided a career as a health care provider was for them.\u00a0 Whatever the reason,\u00a0 they all are looking for a program that will solidify their scientific foundation.\u00a0 Students will certainly find our natural science courses will challenge them to become stronger students, but to be a successful health care provider is more than just knowing the science to being a healthy person.<\/p>\n<p>Through our education, students <u>learn<\/u> to see the person, not the patient.\u00a0 After all,\u00a0 everyone has a story, and it often can play an important role in their overall health and well-being.\u00a0 Integrating social science courses into our curriculum provides our students the knowledge needed to treat the whole person.<\/p>\n<p>A funny thing happens when our students take some of our social science courses &#8211; they learn about themselves.\u00a0 They often get a clearer picture of the kind of healthcare provider they want to be.\u00a0 Some will allow themselves to experience unexpected personal growth that deepens their passion to providing quality healthcare with a servant\u2019s heart.<\/p>\n<p>And just like that, two years have come and gone;
