how beautiful the birds are
\n<\/span>they roam freely
\n<\/span>oh how they sing
\n<\/span>do they know they are locked in a cage?
\n<\/span>oh how they continue to fly with pride
\n<\/span>singing loudly for all to hear\"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

under the sun
\n<\/span>that has never failed to rise
\n<\/span>oh how the sun has seen everything
\n<\/span>does the sun ever feel tired?
\n<\/span>weary & worn from all the fighting <\/span><\/p>\n

surely if the sun continues to rise
\n<\/span>& as the birds keep on singing
\n<\/span>so must we.
\n<\/span>we must keep fighting
\n<\/span>for everything worthy & just
\n<\/span>caught between both the light from the sun & its depths in the shadows\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

& one day we will sing a new song
\n<\/span>may our eyes be open
\n<\/span>our hands ready to work
\n<\/span>& our hearts yearning to love
\n<\/span>like birds singing & dancing freely
\n<\/span>all under the same sun\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>When I think of time spent in Cuba, birds come to mind. Seeing bee hummingbirds, the smallest bird, flying from branch to branch was incredible. Oh, how they are small but mighty. I asked Nate, our nature guy, for a fun fact about these birds. He told me that bee hummingbirds are the only type of birds that can hover on their own.<\/span><\/p>\n

I think this represents Cuba. The blockade the U.S. has intentionally placed on Cuba is a form of genocide. Cubans have been forced to become resourceful to survive. It\u2019s the only way. As one Cuban man said, \u201cbut you won\u2019t see Cubans crying\u201d. They continue to fight and resist. They carry on within themselves not waiting for an external force, the U.S. & our blockade, to change. To me, bee hummingbirds represent \"\"<\/a>the strength and re<\/span>silience of Cubans working together in\u00a0 community. As people\u00a0living in the U.S., change is needed in our country. May we love mercy, do justly & walk humbly.<\/span><\/p>\n
