THE BIRDS<\/p>\n
I envy the birds that fly across
\nThe wall that divides means and men
\nThe birds don’t see the anger of years
\nThat break old hearts and bring new tears
\nThe wall that splits friends and foes
\nThe wall that cuts highs to lows
\nI wish the birds could tie a string,
\nwind me up and there to bring
\nSo I could go and see up high
\nHow the wall creates a lie
\n“They hate us” or “We hate them”
\n“Always an enemy, never a friend”
\nNo, listen! Open your ears!
\nClear the page, erase the smears.
\nWait, see! Open your eyes!
\nNotice the pain. Comfort the sighs.
\nWe together, come once more.
\nTake down the wall, open the door.
\nBut I sit and stare up at the wall
\nAnd watch the birds that seem so small
\nWay up there wild and free
\nHow both sides truly wish to be.<\/p>\n
