Some stories\u00a0behind current and recent employees:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3227\" src=\"\/\/emu.edu\/now\/is\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/evie.jpg\" alt=\"evelyn king\" width=\"75\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/crossroads\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/evie.jpg 75w, https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/crossroads\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/evie-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Evelyn King <\/strong>&#8217;74, supervisor of custodial staff, does studies on EMU&#8217;s choices of carpets, furnishings and cleaning agents. The carpet placed in the Commons, for example, has resisted stains much better than earlier carpets purchased. Why? Because King stain-tested carpet samples, using oil, ketchup, soda and cream-and-sugar-loaded coffee. She\u00a0ensured that\u00a0the carpet selected for the Commons would clean well and not need replacing too-soon. King\u00a0is also behind EMU&#8217;s shift to using a green-certified, biodegradable cleaning solution.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3266 size-full\" src=\"\/\/emu.edu\/now\/is\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/will-hairston-thumb.jpg\" alt=\"will-hairston-thumb\" width=\"75\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/crossroads\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/will-hairston-thumb.jpg 75w, https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/crossroads\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/will-hairston-thumb-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Will Hairston<\/strong>, supervisor of grounds, has played a leading role in &#8220;Coming to the Table,&#8221; a movement to encourage interaction and reconciliation between the descendants of slave-owners and the descendants of slaves. (Visit <a href=\"\/cjp\/comingtothetable\/\">www.emu.edu\/cjp\/comingtothetable\/<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3218\" src=\"\/\/emu.edu\/now\/is\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/DannySholl.jpg\" alt=\"Danny Sholl\" width=\"75\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/crossroads\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/DannySholl.jpg 75w, https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/crossroads\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/DannySholl-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dan Stoll<\/strong>, electrical service supervisor for 12 years, said &#8220;we&#8217;ve got to do better than that&#8221;\u00a0in 2000 when he saw the\u00a0lights budgeted for\u00a0the president&#8217;s reception room above the main entrance to the Commons. &#8220;We have this wonderful window,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It needs something hanging up there that will catch your eye from the street.&#8221; Stoll, who died of a heart attack in 2002, donated $3,000 to\u00a0top off the fund for light fixtures, enabling\u00a0the university to purchase a brass chandelier that Stoll picked out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3235\" src=\"\/\/emu.edu\/now\/is\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/jean.jpg\" alt=\"jean\" width=\"75\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/crossroads\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/jean.jpg 75w, https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/crossroads\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/jean-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jean Ndayizigiye, <\/strong>MA\u00a0&#8217;00, Campus Center custodian, has a masters degree in conflict transformation from EMU and is a state-certified family mediator. He was a civil engineer in his home country of Burundi before he fled to the United States to escape ethnic-based persecution.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3241\" src=\"\/\/emu.edu\/now\/is\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/nevin.jpg\" alt=\"nevin\" width=\"75\" height=\"75\" srcset=\"https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/crossroads\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/nevin.jpg 75w, https:\/\/emu.edu\/now\/crossroads\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/54\/2016\/03\/nevin-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 75px) 100vw, 75px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Nevin Bender Sr<\/strong>. &#8217;61\u00a0holds a masters in divinity from Hartford Seminary and is a former bishop in the Mennonite church. A stroke\u00a0caused\u00a0Bender to shift from intellectual labor to physical labor as a grounds worker. The stroke also affected his balance (he wears a bike helmet\u00a0to protect himself from falls while working). But the stroke did not affect his work ethic and unfailingly positive outlook on life.
