(Dealing with frightened parents in the ER was often harder than dealing with their sick children, he reports.)<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s always treasured the opportunities he had as an undergrad to step outside that medical trajectory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEMU allowed me a chance to explore at lot of things,\u201d says Ropp, who most recently practiced in Dearborn, Michigan, and retired two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>After finishing his core science classes, Ropp enjoyed the chance to study sculp\u00adture and painting. He also stayed with a French Mennonite family while studying European history and culture on a Euro Term.<\/p>\n<p>Ropp, who has supported EMU since he graduated, says the university\u2019s peace and justice programs also inspire him to continue giving.<\/p>\n<p>He also supports his church \u2013 Shalom Community Church in Ann Arbor, Michi\u00adgan \u2013 and Mennonite-affiliated agencies like Mennonite Central Committee and Mennonite Economic Development As\u00adsociates.<\/p>\n<p>The church\u2019s emphasis on giving sur\u00adrounded Ropp as he grew up in Minnesota and Iowa.
