A pipe organ was installed in Lehman Auditorium in the spring of 1976. It is a 22-rank, two-manual and pedal organ built by the Reuter Organ Company of Lawrence, KS.
We also have an organ in Martin Chapel, built by Randall Dyer and Associates of Jefferson City, Tennessee. It was installed in 1994, and is a 14-rank unit organ spread over 2 manuals and pedal.
This vintage 1911 Model A is our most recent acquisition, arriving in the spring of 2009. It was donated to EMU by Robert Gillette in honor of his wife, Kay, and was rebuilt by Alex Brusilovsky of West End Piano Restoration in Richmond. The funds for refurbishment were donated by Mrs. Geraldine Sherwood. Housed in the primary piano studio, it is available for piano major practice and chamber rehearsals, as well as selected performances.
Of our three Steinway B grand pianos, this is our newest. Situated in Martin Chapel, it is used almost exclusively for performances: Faculty Artist Series, lecture performances, and senior or junior recitals, as well as the Preparatory program recitals. It was bought in New York at the Steinway showroom, and brought to campus in 2006. Funds for this instrument were generously given by Mrs. Geraldine Sherwood.
