Elizabeth Girvan is the Executive Director of Skyline Literacy, a community-based nonprofit organization that has been a part of Harrisonburg and Rockingham County since 1987. Prior to her nonprofit role, she worked in the for-profit sector as a small business owner and manager for more than twenty years. Currently some of her responsibilities include financial management, program development, and grantwriting and administration. She also works closely with board members in the areas of fund development and strategic planning. Over the past eight years, she has developed and presented training workshops for volunteer management, adult literacy, and board development. During her time at Skyline, she has focused on developing partnerships with other community organizations to improve collaboration and sustainability. In 2013, she received the Nancy F. Jiranek award from the Virginia Literacy Foundation for Outstanding Executive Director. She received a certificate in nonprofit management from James Madison University and holds an MA in Organizational Leadership from Eastern Mennonite University.
