Edible Landscaping

The edible landscaping project really took off when student Alyshia Zimmerman teamed up with EMU grounds supervisor, Will Hairston, in 2011 after being inspired by the film, “Food Inc.”. With help from grants, Aly, Will and the Earthkeepers bought and transplanted 1,000 plants for landscaping and food around campus. Although edible landscaping had been a staple at EMU, this push helped to diversify and add a plethora of different plants including:

  • asparagus hedges
  • apple, pear, and persimmon trees
  • fig and grape vines
  • juneberry and raspberry bushes

The students also created a map for the edible landscaping which can be used to explore all of the delicious plants on campus!
