The Royals’ softball team dropped the first game of a double header in extras, but made up for it with a commanding win in the second game on Saturday of last week. In the first game, the Royals lost a 3-0 lead and gave up two runs during extras on their way to a 6-4 loss, which moved the Royals to 8-12-1 on the year, before rebounding in the second game.
The second game featured an electrifying performance by Jordan Alyor. The junior pitcher gave up only three hits on her way to a complete game win, her fourth of the year.
Alyor was aided by a strong performance from EMU’s batters as the Royals jumped out to an early lead, scoring in the first two innings.
Senior Brooke Hensley added fireworks to the Royals offensive attack, hitting her second home run of the year.
Another notable performer for the Royals was Freshman Maria Foltz, who had three hits in four at bats with two runs scored and an RBI.
Sophomores Nicolette Cuevas and Aislinn Lucas both added two RBIs to the Royals scoring efforts.
The game was not without suspense, as Emory and Henry made the game close, pulling to within two runs in the fifth inning.
However, due to a strong performance at the plate and on the mound, the Royals went on to score eight runs on their way to an easy 8-3 victory.
At the end of the night, the Royals were 9-12-1 and 4-5-1 in the ODAC. The split maintained EMU’s place in the middle of the conference at the halfway mark of their season.
