The Freelance Whales came to campus on Friday the 8th and performed in Lehman Auditorium for a large crowd of students and community members. The New York band, which formed in 2008, is best known for their use of unusual instruments, which has gotten them compared to acts like Arcade Fire and Sufjan Stevens.

The band has performed on NPR’s “All Songs Considered” and at the South by Southwest music festival. In addition, the A.V. club, an online review site, called them, “one of indie rock’s most intriguing new acts.” Due to the band’s growing profile, they were a big-name act to play on a campus as small as EMU.
