Listening Process: A Form of Communal Discernment

Given that EMU is an institution of Mennonite Church USA, a particular Anabaptist Christian denomination, the decision of the Board of Trustees to empower EMU Administration to engage in an intentional listening process regarding the hiring policy might best be understood as a form of communal discernment.

In order to have integrity in the eyes of the church, the intentional conversations to be held involving EMU constituency, alumni and the current campus community would do well to engage with scriptural and theological understandings as well as cultural dynamics and personal narratives.

It is crucial for all of this to be grounded in prayer seeking the wisdom of God as understood both through scripture and with and through one another.

Campus ministries is eager to participate in such a process.
