The Social Media class led by Paulette Moore met with NPR’s Andy Carvin last Tuesday. Carvin uses Twitter and other social media outlets to spread information and ensure that NPR stays updated and relevant. Students asked questions about how he found and used international contacts to compile stories. Carvin cited one incident in which he was on the ground with bombs and tear gas being used in the streets. He did not know what was happening until he returned to his hotel room and compiled various Twitter feeds from witnesses to understand the full story.
